    Development Goals and Basic Accounts

Last week we updated our development goals for 2008. Generally we noted a number of cool enhancements and investments to LiveJournal that we are working on, including improved search, usability, and site development.

We also wanted to let you know how we hope to accomplish all these things, and how we plan on paying for them. In order to accomplish our stated goals for this year and beyond, we need to increase the revenue gained from both groups of LiveJournal accounts: paid subscription accounts and ad-supported accounts.

As of August 28th, all users will be able to choose to downgrade their account to Basic through their Manage Account page. Additionally, we will start showing advertising to visitors who are not logged in to LiveJournal when they are looking at Basic Account journals and communities.

Basic Account users themselves will not see ads on any Basic journal or community while they are logged in to their account. If you want more information about this, take a look at our new post on [info]lj_2008 where we outline our reasoning.

    Indian Flash Fiction Contest

In other news, we are excited to tell you we've launched "Quick Tales" LiveJournal's first initiative for users in India, in celebration of India Independence day, August 15th. "Quick Tales" is a flash fiction writing contest in which we're partnering with Caferati.com, one of India's largest online literary communites. The contest's winners will receive some great prizes and it is open to anyone with a mailing address in India. We hope that users with an interest in Indian writing or just India will watch LiveJournal's [info]india_writing community. That's where the finalists and winners will be announced, so keep an eye on it towards the end of September! If you're in India then enter the contest - if your story is slick and quick (under 500 words) then you could be the lucky winner!

    Meanwhile, back at LiveJournal Inc.

We have updated and redesigned our corporate site. The goal of the redesign was twofold: first, to update the look and feel (Dystopia users will appreciate it!); second, we want to provide a destination for prospective employees, partners, and members of the press where they can access important information about the company. Kudos to our design team.

    OMG fangurl
So when I was 15 I convinced a good friend of mine to get our parents to take us out east for a "perfect" college visit. We were musicians so it wasn't that hard. Off to Berklee in Boston, then toJulliard in NYC. The trip was lovely and memorable for several reasons. None more so than for a trip to a little theater just off the main strip for a new broadway production. We camped with our moms who were GREAT sports about the whole thing out side of this brightly painted theater with several other High School and college aged humans. we made some interesting friends that day. That night we actually made it in as seats 17, 18, 19 and 20 to see what I will always state is the greatest musical of all times!!! That night has been something I have held onto all these years. Every time It showed up at the fox I went to see it and whimpered and wined that I never again got back to The Netherlander theater in New York City. No more so than This year. You see this beloved Musical is closing it's doors for the final time on September 7th Thus I shall only get to see it in the original theater once. I was honestly afraid I would never see it again on stage then I found out they are doing a Final run TOUR this spring. It is stopping in Chicago and my equally beloved St Louis. This musical makes me cry just from the music. I can think of no better good bye, love than to go and watch it there and mouth along to the songs. I can think of no better people to see play Roger and Mark than Adam and Anthony and I get my wish... If only Idina was playing Maureen What a fitting way to say goodbye to the musical who got me through some of the worst times in my life!

Best part I get to share it with the man I love... Too bad Noah is too young to go.

    Decisions...
First and foremost a reminder. Michael's Birthday is Wednesday!!! He will be 28! Beer and tokens from missed war are great birthday gifts.
I have decided that I wanna try the preforming thing again and many of the Music groups at IU do not require you to be in the music program to audition for them (or even be an undergrad) YAY for me I shall be auditioning for a few groups yay singing. Should I get accepted though it will take up a decent amount of my already lacking free time.

In other news I read the Middle Kingdom Event calendar for fall.... I want to go to MKAOD, that's a sure thing. I also want to have my Period metal kit fixed by then so I can participate play that way. The only other one I know for sure I will be going to is Crystal ball even if I have to go alone. Of course this means I won't be at KWAR because to me the family I grew into the society with is more important than ANY other thing could be. As for Our event, it's opposite another event back home so the people I most wanted to come will likely not be making it.

In other news next month Mom is going to try to come out to see the place and have the 4 of us hang here some. I am quite happy about this.

Anyway a picture post of Noah summer and the cats in comming. Oh and We are a couch and entertainment center away from having an adult looking house. I hear echoes of old conversations about upgrading with Perry and V&R. Anyway. I am in a better place than a year ago and trying to plan my life/future/school. Gotta go pay attention to those beings in my house take care all.

    Current Mood: disappointed
